IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2008
We have had some requests for information regarding improvements made for 2008. While we have spoken to a number of folks regarding this, we thought to pass on the information. We are still a young event, and we take your constructive suggestions seriously. We instituted a number of rule changes per your request, to both fall in line with other LSR events, and to better streamline the event procedures. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we have grown (from 71 in the 1st year, to 93, 160 and 348 in years 2,3 and 4 respectively). Any new event will have growing pains, and we endeavor to improve each year with that growth. Each year has presented a new learning curve for us and we believe that the following should improve various areas of the event:

RULE CHANGES:
* 5% Rule (Rule 1.H. AMA Sups). All motorcycles must be at or above the existing record to qualify for a return pass. Previously you were required to be within 5%. This will reduce the number of return runs.

* Record attempt are over 2 consecutive runs (Rule 1.H. AMA Sups). All record attempts will be made in a pair. If the consecutive pair of runs does not exceed the existing record, the motorcycle must return the pre-staging line and re-qualify.

*175mph long course (Rule 1.F. AMA Sups) all motorcycles on the long course require a 'sticker' to pass the starting line. This will eliminate unqualified bikes running the long course.

* Termination of record run (Rule 1.H. AMA sups). 'Termination of a record run will be done for a turn our, engine power failure, or interruption, after a motorcycle has left the starting line'. All motorcycles that for any reason stop after leaving the starting line will be required to return to the pre-staging line. The RWB track is available for test runs.

EVENT PROCEDRES/CHANGES
*Additional 5-mile course. We will run 2 tracks, with 4 courses this year. We will have the International Course, consisting of an 11-mile (dependant on course cond) and a 5-mile, as laid out in previous years. And we will have a Mountain Course (mountain side of the pits) with a 5-mile short course and the RWB 3 mile course. A majority of our participants run the 5-mile courses. All FIM participants will run on the International course- long or short (so that the FIM steward does not have to be on 2 courses at once). AMA short course participants will be divided between the 2 5 mile courses. This will permit a better flow of vehicles. BOTH Tracks will be fully certified for Records.

*Limiting entries for RWB. We do not wish, at this stage, to limit the numbers of entries, however RWB will be limited to allow running time for record attempts.

*Not guaranteeing that participants can enter at the meet. Dependant on our pre-entry number, we may not permit entries on the salt, other than changes in class. In 2007, we had 160 pre-entered, almost 200 entered during the meet, when more participant enter at the meet than pre enter- it puts a large unexpected strain on procedures and staff. Disallowing this should enable us to ensure that we have enough facilities in place to handle the participants that are entered.

*Pre-stage: One line to rule them all! The pre-staging line will move out of the pit area (closer to the starting lines). All motorcycles must form one line (possibly two if space requires it). Motorcycles will be distributed to the appropriate course. Motorcycles cannot be left unattended. There will be no 'list'. You will know how many people are in front of you, by counting how many people are in front of you. All motorcycles in line must be race ready (trailering is permitted). Streamliners will be permitted, with pre-staging authorization, to stage at the '0', however they must have a crewmember wait in line. Streamliner will be the only crews that are permitted to have a support vehicle in lieu of their race vehicle in pre-staging.

* Rider's handbook. We are in the process of completing a 'Rider's handbook' that will assist with procedures, do's and don't and general info to help riders complete what they need. This will be sent out to participants that pre-enter with their confirmation packet.

*Praying for better weather.... no wind delays, no rain, no wind storms... though this is the one thing that we cannot control!

The above information is a brief guideline of our plans for 2008. There may be some changes, however in reviewing submitted suggestion forms, reviewing our procedures and adapting them for the growing numbers we believe that the combination of adjustments will contribute to a smoother event.

Lastly- we would like to add that, as always, we need volunteers to assist with the smooth running of the event. Sparing one (or all) of your crew for a 4-hour shift makes a difference to us. Each year we have a number of participants that manage to work and race- to those we thank you. If you have anyone that would like to contribute to the event by becoming a volunteer please contact Delvene at BUB.
